Commercial Description:
Trader Joe's Vintage Ale is a dark Belgian style beer of great distinction produced by traditional top fermentation methods resulting in a rich and full-bodied flavor. The Champagne-like effervescence and smooth mouth feel are the result of a natural secondary fermentation in the bottle obtained by the use of a carefully selected yeast culture. This vintage ale commences with a rich head of foam, followed by a smooth dark flavor with a hint of roasted malt delicately balanced by subtle notes of noble European hops. True to its Abbey style, this year's vintage closes with a long, complex and subtly spiced finish. Brewed once a year in limited quantity, please enjoy Trader Joe's 2006 Vintage Ale. This ale will age exceptionally well over time, developing more complex flavor as the years go by. Exclusively bottled for Trader Joe's. Best Before 08-28-2009.

2008-04-19. Black body with a modest beige head. (3+) Aroma is light anise blended with spice, hint of spearmint seems unlikely at first, but is persistent so it must be there in some form or another. Light alcohol presence. (7+) Similar flavour, anise at first, spice melange grows more prominent as you go. Very light notes of mint, leafy notes? (7+)? Average to medium palate. (3+) Rather interesting, with some great highlights but I found the flavours just a bit... sharp? and thus while I enjoyed a glass of it, I am glad I was sharing the bottle. With this rating I have ticked off the last of the current Unibroue listings, thanks SDBruboy! Bottle from trade with SDBruboy, shared with Mabel and DuctTape.

Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this one at the April Get Together. Murky mahogany body that produces a thin, tan head. spicy roast malt aroma that carries with it some licorice and cola. Spritz and highly carbonated. Tasty..

This is one of the most sour ales I’ve ever tasted! I thought it turned but the bottle says good till 8/2009. Terrible stuff.

Bottle, shared at the May 2008 tasting. Thanks Paul. Nose is super spicy - clove, cardamom, yeast. Flavor is spice - yeast, clove, nutmeg, pumpkin, tingly alcohol. Kinda overwhelmingly spiced.

A dark brown pour almost red with creamy off white head. Flavor is dark hard molasses with a hard charging flavor that cleans your mouth like licorish but its not really licorish. Overly carboanted for me even beyond the style. An unusual beer that in small quantities is very drinkable.

A- Pours deep jet black with a chestnut brown head that is massive and leaves nice lacing when it dissipates. S- Sweet, Floral and hints of alcohol. T- The taste starts off sweet and finishes with a very distinct dark rye taste. Belgian taste is very evident in this brew. M- This beer is very carbonated and somewhat thin, very refreshing. D- This is highly drinkable for the 9 percent alcohol content. I could sip on this all day.
