Commercial Description:
No colouring agents or artificial additives are used in this ancient Lett family recipe. The robust amber colour comes from the judicial use of crystal and carastan malts. Remember the ancient brewery credo, "We only sell what we can't drink ourselves."

Pours a dark rich colour, almost cola-like. Not a bad beer at all. Taste of caramel.

Some floweriness and a bit of sweet malts in this thin, not very flavourful beer. Very average. Why do they sell them in these huge bombers...?

Okay...I’m sorry, I thought it was a beer I was purchasing. The aroma was way off...in both bottles. It just smelled the way a thud would feel. The colour, had it been a brown ale, would have been charming. It was a hazy ruddy brown. Flavour? Metallic, syrupy, salty. Definitely salty. I give it an overall 5 because the SO was adamant against pouring it down the drain and she chose to suffer it. Save your money.

a new favorite! surprisingly refreshing with a slight tang to it’s flavor. pours a cloudy medium amber colour with a light head that dissipates quickly along with it’s carbonation. has a bit of a pucker factor and a pleasing finish. hints of fruit, perhaps apricot?

bottle: Pours a dark cola-red with a fair off- white cap that has modest retention...some lacing. Aromas of caramalt over a distinct sour/lactal tonewhich seems to be this brewer’s signature....wierd! Tastes only slightly better than it smells weak bodied soapy texture. Malty- toasty, sweet, some cocoa then this God-awful sour-veggy taste....I think its the hops trying to make an appearance but it tastes and smells like celery..weird!

Draught at BeerBistro - 2005 Golden Tap Awards. Dark ruby with a small white head. Strange aroma - like caramel that has gone slightly bad & sour. Flavour is OK, with some coffee and caramel and a mildly bitter finish. Similar to their Celtic, but not nearly as good.

Draught at 2005 Golden Tap Awards at BeerBistro. Pours a clear dark ruby with an average white head. Aroma of sweet malt and sour apple. Taste of metallic caramel malt -- this is not a good taste! Avoid.

Draught. Sampled at BeerBistro - 2005 GTA Golden Tap Awards. Poured a deep coppery red with an average white head. Aroma was very harsh - sour cranberry juice, sugary roast malt, also a bit sour, a small quantity of very strong green hops as well. Taste - again sour cranberry or black currant, brown sugary medium roasted malt, some balancing hops - overall a bit metallic. Mouthfeel was thin and oily. I didn’t finish my sample - this one’s all over the place and not enough anything. Yet another beer with "Red" in the name to avoid.
