Commercial Description:
No colouring agents or artificial additives are used in this ancient Lett family recipe. The robust amber colour comes from the judicial use of crystal and carastan malts. Remember the ancient brewery credo, "We only sell what we can't drink ourselves."

Nut brown. Some flowery hop aroma. Lightly soapy mouthfeel, some crystal malt flavour. Smooth with low bitterness.

Has a hit of toasted malts to provide a respectably bitter backbone.

Appearance is a clear dark amber with minimal off-white head. Aroma is too mild to be taken seriously, lazy teenager hops. In mouth, there's a water character which doesn't quite help it, hops are shy. An effort can be perceived where a hint is directed toward nuts. It lacks presence and character, period.

Incessant sweet cherry malts ride an indignant caramel syrup...A fruity sketch fetches a watery wretch...Carpe Diem as an unknown concept...

650 ml bomber. Amber colour, thick lasting off-white head. Aroma is very dusty and musty with a hint of maltiness. Flavour shows butterscotch, berry fruitiness. No bitterness and a bit too sweet. Ok, but not great.

Strong sweet malt aroma. Clear copper colour with anemic fully diminishing head. Mild toastiness and sweet malt flavour with a some bitterness to offset. Medium thin body. Loses carbonation quickly. Drinkable but not inspiring. Bottle.

Draught. Sampled at BeerBistro - 2005 GTA Golden Tap Awards. Poured a deep coppery red with an average white head. Aroma was very harsh - sour cranberry juice, sugary roast malt, also a bit sour, a small quantity of very strong green hops as well. Taste - again sour cranberry or black currant, brown sugary medium roasted malt, some balancing hops - overall a bit metallic. Mouthfeel was thin and oily. I didn’t finish my sample - this one’s all over the place and not enough anything. Yet another beer with "Red" in the name to avoid.

Nice red color poured. A bit of malt. Felt balanced, pleasantly surprised it was not bitter.
