Commercial Description:
No colouring agents or artificial additives are used in this ancient Lett family recipe. The robust amber colour comes from the judicial use of crystal and carastan malts. Remember the ancient brewery credo, "We only sell what we can't drink ourselves."

341 mL bottle. Chestnut brown with almost no head. Aroma of burnt caramel. Very creamy mouthfeel. Sweet - brown sugar and roasted malt. Nothing else going on. No hops to speak of. No finish.

[1762-20081004] Tap. Mild fruity yeast aroma. Clear, light brown body with a long-lasting creamy white head and some thick lacing. Mild fruity yeast continues in flavour with a weird cloying finish. Medium body. Good.

Bottle handed to me at a party. Slightly murky looking in the bottle. I didn’t bother to pour it. Better than the other servings at the party except my homebrew. Smell was a bit sweet and pungent. Taste was strongly of licorice followed by bitter cherry. An odd combination. It was kind of good, but at the same tiime made me step back at each sip. May try this one again.

A better Red Irish Ale that most but still needs to improve to get into the next level. Pours an auburn red. Aroma is of hop and toffee. Taste is malt and quite robust with a nice hop aftertaste which is quite surprising. I wasn’t expecting the hop bitterness at the end.

Has a hit of toasted malts to provide a respectably bitter backbone.

Nice red color poured. A bit of malt. Felt balanced, pleasantly surprised it was not bitter.

Orangey in colour with a watered down malt / caramel aroma. Toffee mild burnt hoppy bitterness. Cookie, and bread crust. Some sour notes. Watery finish.
