Nice dark amber with hints of red. Small head. Very sweet and powerfull aroma. hints of dark chocolate and fruit. Flavour of sweet malt, peppery alcohol, chocolate with some roasted notes. Long sweet and warming finish with hints of spices. A Big Beer.

A beer that is awesome just to look at. Strong dark appearance and a malty slightly burnt taste.Alcohol hits you as soon as you sip, and believe me this is a beer to be sipped and appreciated. An impressive brew, but not one to offer to visitors to your sunday afternoon bbq.

Red, dark amber coloured beer with a small head. Sweet malty, slightly fruity aroma. Sweet chocolade, roasted taste. Neutral to slightly malty aftertaste.

Definitely lots of burnt chocolate, bitterness all seem to come from the malts, no hopbitterness detectable. Well rounded, but I find the finish a wee bit thin. OK, but I’ve had better Barley wines.

A very strong tasting, some what fortified beer with a slightly burn’t chocolate aroma. A specially brewed beer but not one of Traquair’s best.

A dark roast coffee of a beer with licourice notes and a burnt aftertaste. There is also an underlying sweetness. About on par with the ’standard’ House Ale. Happy 1000th!

Pretty impressive stuff. Very roasty malty flavour, with a nice spiciness. Definitely a sipper, alcohol shows a bit, but not very much, slightly bitter finish, very nice.

Dark brown. Sweet, hugely malty, slightly peaty. Despite the massive maltiness the alcohol takes over a bit much. The bitterness is comparably low.
