The aroma is sweet malty and so is the flavor combined with notes of roasted bread. I’ll give this a second go, since my notes are very limited for a good beer like this. omhper (12299), Stockholm, Sweden
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 31, 2002 Dark brown. Sweet, hugely malty, slightly peaty. Despite the massive maltiness the alcohol takes over a bit much. The bitterness is comparably low. oh6gdx (9115), Vasa, Finland
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2006 Botted (last bottle at Pikilinna, Tampere). Dark rubyish brown colour, small beige head. Aroma of plum with hints of sugar and slight alcohol. Flavour is sweet burnt sugar, plum, yeast and bread. Not as sweet as the house ale. Also the yeast was quite strong in the finish. fiulijn (7520), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 17, 2009 Bottle at Akkurat, Stockholm, vintage 2000, 8 years old Cloudy brown color with red shades, with a thick creamy head. Very nice aroma, malt and caramel, quite mature, a bit woody. Good body strength, round mouthfeel, pleasant sweetness; powerful caramel flavor, with notes of mild chocolate and correct bitterness. More chocolate in the end. The alcohol warmth can be perceived, in the end. It reminds me some good Strong Ale from Belgium more than a Barley Wine from England (more chocolate than sticky malts), I like it mostly for it’s round body and medium sweetness; it’s very well brewed and still excellent. Dark ruby color. Head has an expresso color and is steady. Roasted malt, sweet blackberries - very heavy aroma. Taste is sweet malts, berries and alcohol, full-bodied. Real winter warmer. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 13, 2002 Pretty impressive stuff. Very roasty malty flavour, with a nice spiciness. Definitely a sipper, alcohol shows a bit, but not very much, slightly bitter finish, very nice. JorisPPattyn (5193), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 16, 2002 Definitely lots of burnt chocolate, bitterness all seem to come from the malts, no hopbitterness detectable.
Well rounded, but I find the finish a wee bit thin.
OK, but I’ve had better Barley wines. madsberg (5076), Søborg, Denmark

Fruitsweetness, alcahol and some chocolatish notes in the flavour. Pretty well balanced. Finishes with a nice alcahol burnt and some fruit notes. Nice one.
