| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 1, 2008 Red mahogany with a huge, nice and creamy head. The aroma has a nice sweetness, notes of roasted malt, raisin, plum, prunes and light licorice. The flavour has sweetness, notes of roasted malt, raisin, prune, caramel and light licorice, and I do not feel the alcohol. I do miss a more oily mouthfeel, since it’s a BW, but it’s very nice indeed. b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2008 Brown/ruby color with small tan head and no lacing. Sweet, vinous aroma was better than flavor, which was somewhat bland, woody, with some light fruits. Not a great barley wine when compared to some of the bigger stronger ones. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 20, 2008 Bottle, Mackinlay’s Inn, Stockholm, Sweden. A dark ruby/burgundy colored beer with a small white head. Did not appear to be bottle conditioned. Non descriptive smells, maybe some browned red apple and brown sugar, but not much otherwise. Flavor doesn’t have much complexity. Malts are sweet, caramel-like, also a bit husky. Not a lot there. Glouglouburp (2877), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 16, 2008 Updated: Oct 23, 2009In short: A whole lot of molasses and a good amount of juicy hops. Interesting take on the genre.
How: Bottle at Winking Lizard (Columbus Ohio)
The look: Brown body with a small beige head
In long: Nose is earthy and toffee. Taste is something else with lots and lots of molasses. Raisins, some toffee and then some more molasses. Black liquorice and more molasses. Thankfully the juicy leafy hops do a pretty good job at lightening the experience. Medium-high sweetness level, sticky body, medium carbonation. Quite drinkable for such a rich heavy beer. The price is the only downside of this Traquair $9.00. haukur (684), Reykjavik, Iceland
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | May 14, 2008 dark brown, medium head. Roast, malt, licorice, vanilla all tingling in the aroma. Incredibly heavy palate, full bodied doesnt even begin to describe it. Not as hoppy as the american barley wines, much more malt in this. I really dont know about this one, I´d like to re-rate it under another occasion, very good fireplace beer nonetheless rane (513), Nibe, Denmark
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 13, 2008 Bottle. A very nice beer. Dark red brown with medium and long lasting pale brown head.Aroma of malts, dried fruits, prunes dates. Nice. Taste very thick moutlfeel. Initially licorice and then prunes, plumes and dates. I think this one comes close to Westvletern 12 and Rochefort 10. If a beer rated 3.77 can be underrated, this one surely is. Kalli (480), Falun, Sweden
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2008 Slightly port-like caramel and alchohol aroma. Incredibly subtle yet big. This is full-bodied! Slight coffee, some peat and then caramel and hops sneaking in on the finish.
