One of the extras sampled at the Sam Smith tasting at Blacklick Wine and Spirits on 2.6.09. Dark brown pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma of malt, yeast, vinegar, alcohol and caramel. Malty heavy caramel flavor with some vanilla and a bit of booze in the finish. Pretty tasty.

11.2 oz. bottle in a snifter. Pours a clear reddish brown color with a very small fizzy beige head this disappears into a thin ring. The aroma is full of rich malts, caramel, toffee, some spice, and dark fruits like raisins. The flavor has a nice amount of complexity, caramel and toffee malt, fruity, smooth. The fruits range from raisins to berries. A moderate level of sweetness leads to a dry finish. Medium bodied and as stated before, smooth. There is no hint to the 9% which makes this potentially dangerous. Its a good thing they didn’t use bombers.

Bottle courtesy of fiver29. Pours an oxblood red/mahogany with zero head and a small tan ring around the glass that leaves spotty lacing. The nose is dark fruit, sweet malt and brown sugar. The taste is prunes, raisins, light molasses and caramelized brown sugar. Lighter mouth feel than expected. Bonus points for a sweet bottle. :) Thanks John!

Poured a hazed orange-brown color with a small off-white head and some legs. Thick malty aroma with some fruity notes. Some cherry with a touch of caramel. Sweet malt flavor with fruity notes that again remind me of cherry. Medium bodied with an almost silky mouthfeel.

Bottle generously shared by beastiefan2k. Pours a slightly hazy translucent garnet with a thin ring of beige bubbles clinging to the glass. The nose is old, woody and vinous with a bit of alcohol thrown into the mix at the finish. Medium-bodied and slick with a lightly boozy finish. Sweet, round, spicy malt, wood and dark fruit. Good stuff. Thanks again for sharing this rare treat with us, Eugene.
