Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body with a thin, short-lived head. Smell: Sweetish dark caramel aroma with a distinct woody component and notes of dark fruits stirred up with some booze. Taste: Cream dark caramel and brown sugar with a reasonable amount of malty sweetness. Touch of licorice. A bit woody, some tobacco hints too. Rather fruit throughout with a taste of plump, juicy raisins. Earthy hops with a restrained bitterness. Somewhat boozy on the chewy finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation. Soft mouthfeel. Drinkability: A decent, enjoyable barleywine and isn’t that all anyone was ever asking for?

2007 Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with hardly any real heead, and clear dark brown body. Aroma of grapes, must, cranberries, casis and caramel. Taste is berries malt and sugar. Very well hidden alcohol. Creamy mouthfeel and light bubbles.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Reddish dark brown color with almost no head. ONly a little ring of bubbles around the glass. Nose is sweat, cherries, wood, and booze. Taste: caramel, red apples, nice medium to thick mouthfeel with high drinkability and a grape finish.

From a 12oz bottle - Pours a clear root beer color with small quickly dissipating head. Below average carbonation. Smells sweet alcohol with oat and a ton of fruit notes in the nose. First sip is super sweet and smooth with fruity flavors balanced by a matching mal backbone. Very nice, very drinkable. Excellent bitter finish. The 9% ABV is not well hidden.

Deep dark amber colored with little yellow head. Velvety aroma with vinous tones, some oaky-vanilla and toffee notes also finely present with nice alcohol. Interesting mix of BW and IS. Medium to full bodied, soft velvety palated. Flavor is also smooth with same whiskey vanilla notes, sweetness comes strongly up. Aftertaste lasts with mild alcohol and fine whiskey tone. I like this.

Bottle, Ale Cellar, Darlington. Poured a dark reddy brown with a tan head which disappeared to nothing. Aroma was malty with spices, dark fruit and chocolate jostling for posession;and the flavour was subtly sweet and shared plenty of these components with a pleasantly warming alco-buzz. Rich and somewhat vinous. Definitely one to savour. A worthy brew to bring up my quadruple century !
