Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Clear brown body with a tiny beige head, fading. Sweet, malty nose with dark fruits, toffee and brown sugar. Moderately sweet taste with figs, rum raisin, toffee and an underlying presence of roast (slightly chocolaty) that lingers on the finish. Medium body is touch thin with moderate carbonation.

Traquair makes beers that are immediately identifiable among it’s peers, as it’s beers are relatively unique when compared to most Scottish ales. Deep brown color with dark amber highlights. Lots of malt on the nose but not as much on the tongue... subtle flavors of plums and currants, and a touch of madeira. Just enough Kent Goldings (hops) make this beer ultra smooth. While this brew isn’t representative of most Scottish ales, it’s actually one of my favorites. Not cheap in America, but well worth it!

Bottle from Utobeer. Nose of cream, malt, molasses, dried fruits. Aroma reminds me of a Belgian beer especially with the hint of alcohol. Pours a clear copper coloured beer with barely a head. Taste is predominantly that of alcohol, malt, vinuous, fruits and a moderate sweetness. Also, notes of bread, cloves and spices. Not bad but I was expecting more.

Oct. 2006 - Beer poured dark brown with smallish head. The aroma was nutty and buttery and reminded me of a wet dog. The flavor was really nice and complex, some chocolate, some roast, but a buttery diacetyl flavor took away from all of that. It wasn’t pleasant. Ehhh...I’ll pass.

Poured with little head. Color reminds me of maple syrup. Sweet aroma with hints of vanilla lingering at the end. Taste starts off bright and slightly roasty and evolves through a mild sweetness to a warming finish.

[WBA Styles Tasting] Big-time malt aroma, with some subtle vanilla character. Pours a very nice dark brown color. Complex flavors of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Very low perceived bitterness. Mouth-coating, slick mouthfeel.

Iced tea brown, off-white head. A little wet smelling, prunes, brown sugar, some yeast. Malty with a slight meat flavor, which reflects the interesting aroma. Quite lightly carbonated, and a lingering mildly bitter finish. Interesting and decent brew.

A dark brown brew with no fuss (head). Smells like sweet malt, sugar, and alcohol, which isn’t necesarily a good thing. The flavor is like mild beef, alcohol, and tinged barley leaf. It’s decent. It’s a little sticky in the mouth.
