Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Blah...this is awful. Aroma of whiskey(?) and oak. Pour was a flat light brown with no head. Taste was oak, whiskey (don’t know why) and a little toasted malt. There is some kind of weird nutty taste was well. No carbonation whatsoever. Without carbonation, this beer doesn’t have enough to keep me interested.

Smells of some fruit, caramel and alcohol. The taste is very good with liquorice, leather, some fruit, wood and smoke. The alcohol is well hidden. I’m defintely going to by this again sometime. 2008/05/31: Ah, this is amazing stuff. Great mouthfeel. Taste is great; liqourice, caramel, roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee and a light fruity taste behind. Traquair is one of my favourite brewerys in top with Närke Kulturbryggeri and Nøgne Ø.

Brown bright appearance with the right little creamy head. Very strong notes of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, ripe fruit, little wood, little smoke, very smooth. Very nice palate, very complex, fantastic dry end.

Wow traquair has done it again. Might even be better than jacobite. Pours a dark brown cloudy color with a small soapy head. Smell is of berries and caramel malt. Taste is the same but with a smoky roasted taste. Really great and the alcohol content is hidden. Extremely high marks!

Pours a dark brownish red with a small creamy beige head. Aroma of red wine, nuts and vinegar. Taste is slightly nutty with malt undertones and a red wine like finish.

Almost opaque dark brown pour with large tan head that fizzes off very quickly. Crazy aroma of orange jello... no joke, well maybe honey and malt. Its nice to be surprised by a new flavor.. and this is a new one... its like a cross between a porter and a english strong..or maybe a hop infused porter. Sweet alkaline slightly toasted malt, a little chocolate, some fruits, and the hops add the bite. Bitter licorice/raisin finish, maybe even some nuts. This beer is confusing =p Palate is not extraordinary... somewhat watery mouthful for so many flavors.

I don’t know how good this bottle is, it seems to have set there for about a year. Pours a beautiful head that slowly dissapates leaving a little lacing behind. Color is bright and dark amber to brown. Smells very nutty and creamy, very nice. It has a very bready taste and aftertaste. Taste is a little creamy, nutty, and smooth. It has a coffee undertone and a slight hint of smoke. It’s also slightly sweet and malty. It has a smooth mouthfeel that’s a little watery.
