Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Auburn brown hue with tan creamy diminishing head with not much lacing, a little hazy, smells like the oak barrel or cask it was stored in, tasted primarily like oak and a little malty, sweetened and syruped as it warmed, nice balance slight creamy texture with light carbonation, minimally dryness. I liked it.

Interesting aroma with hints of smoke and leather. Dark mahogany color. Nice flavor, rich, but still rather dry, or at least the sensation of dryness from the oak aging.

Bottle (from Bitter Virtue, BB 2016). An especially long bb date which I cant imagine this would survive in good condition. Sweet malt, choc and liquoricey treacle with overpresent alcohol and a thin metallic body. A big dissapointment.

330 ml bottle. Red-brown colour with a small almost beige or white head. Roasted malt aroma and also some alcohol sticks out to the nose. The flavor is freshly thick, well balanced and luckily not too much carbonated. It might get better after some storage.

Malty aroma. Very well balanced and elegant flavor. Floral and fruit notes behind a nice malt foreground of caramel. Alcohol is there, undisguised, but is not unpleasant. Expensive, but well-worth checking out.
