Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Bottle courtesy of ross. Pours a cloudy dark amber-brown with some small floaties and a large diminishing creamy tan head. Nice earthy aroma with caramel malt and fruit along with yeast, some spices, smoke and more -- there’s lots going on here. Earthy, roasty malt flavour with dark fruit, yeast, nuts, wood, alcohol and more -- complex and flavourful. Medium to full bodied. More akin to a Scotch Ale then an English Strong in my opinion but either way, it’s a fantastic beer and a joy to drink.

12oz brown bottle from Ron’s. Dark brown body with ruby red highlights and a quarter inch of off-white head. Toasty nutty aroma on this one. Tastes like nut, caramel malt, with roasty and burnt malt, with hints of chocolate. Full flavored and complex. Creamy mouthfeel with just enough carbonation to support it. Fairly drinkable for the full-bodiednesss and abv. Fantastic.

Dark, redish brown with a medium tan head. Malt and caramel tones. Malty, sweet and roasted. Medium to full body with an interesting, bittersweet finish.

Pours a dark amber-brown with a strong alcohol and hops aroma - slightly rummy. A wonderful warming taste, sour, peppery hops and alcohol, amber malt and maple syrup. Slightly thin body with decent carb. A nice beer, but falls flat when compared with the Jacobite.

An exciting English Strong Ale with not so exciting alcohol content. Bolster the alcohol and the flavor and palate experiences would have been greatly improved. Aroma of hops, yeast, malt, fruit. Flavor was very unique with hints of maple, malt, and rye. Very well balanced. The flavors seeped through my mouth but did not reach the back of my tongue or throat; leaving me taking bigger drinks trying to extract a fuller experience. Overall, however, a very nice Ale. The price, however, was $7.50 for a 11.2 ounce bottle, which puts the cost to enjoyment ratio way out of wack. It was nice to try this unique English Strong Ale, but for the money, I would try something else.

Bottled, Filtered, 330ml, aged 4.5yrs. Ruby to brown with beige head. What a beautiful looking beer, it has the appearance of a rich burgundy, but with a head. It is smooth, the ageing has worked particularly well, fusing the parts into one luscious, rounded, full beer. There is a blackcurrant and winey raisin note to it, warming in the alcohol, there is a sweetness on the finish. Very, very good
