Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

330 ml in pint glass pours a gorgeous, uncloudy mahogany with red tones. Small, light brown head settles to thin film with sugary lace. Aroma is a deliciously spiced date-raisin liqueur aged in oak, then baked in a bread. Flavor is the same, with some chocolate spice cake added to the front for good measure, and perfect balance of bittering hops finish that lingers in the aftertaste. Medium-bodied, with an overall dry palate that balances the rich flavors well. Excellent beer.

11.2 oz bottle. Poured a dark brown with a small off white head. Not getting the complex aroma that all the other raters experienced but all I could detect was some sort of metallic smell. Flavor didn’t seem to be impacted by the aroma though as it tasted fantastic. Full mouth feel with an initial sweet flavor that was reminiscent of honey that finished into a nice toasted malt.

Brown with a little tan head; raisin and caramelly nose; taste like salty brandy. Alcohol flavor present in perfect proportion.

Bottle. Nice creamy, yellowish head on top of the mahogny beer. Strong raisins aroma with hints of chocolate. Chocolate flavours, countered by fruit, mainly raisins, but still remaining quite bitter. Dry mouthfeel, full-bodied. A beer Scotland can be proud of.

Aroma of lots of malt and dark chocolate, citric. a nice balance with maltyness and and the bitter finish in the aromatic finish. It smells lika a Nordic bock beer. Flavor:Malty, dark chocolate, and a bit smouth mouth feeling, witout the typical rosted bitter alc bitterness in the end. 11.2 oz bottle. Pours into my English pint a dark brown with a lasting tan head. Big, sweet malty nose, some dark fruit and a touch of nuttiness. Big, rich, sweet malt flavor, very complex, with nuts, chocolate, dark fruits and a touch of smoke. Bitter nutty finish with a small alcohol hit. Very good!

My bottle poured w/ virtually no head, a ruby tinted dark choclate color. Lightly fruity nose, cherries, with alcohol and toasted malts. The flavor is very smooth, toasty, chocolatey without being very bitter. It’s lightly sweet. Has a lightly syrupy body. Very friendly. I think mine was a little old. The palate and flavor seemed just a bit watered.
