Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

WFM sample. Nose is mostly sweet, some sourness. Pours a medium brown color with no head. Flavor is well balanced sweet and sour, nice yeast/malt combination. Interesting brew.

Dark fruity aroma. Sort of a hazy pruny color. No noticeable head. Starts with a hint of anise and some sweetness; thinnish mouthfeel; hints of raisin; a chocolate character follows. Finishes dry. Not very bitter. A woody aspect in the very end. Interesting.

330ml - Dark brown liquid under tan head. Licorice and faint chocolate on nose. Chocolate and coffee on palate. Unremarkable.

Dark brown color. Creamy, light head that lingers long after the pour. Aromas of smoke, raisins, and plums. Full in the mouth. Chocolate, vanilla, and raisins flavor. Light alcohol finish. Nice beer. A little expensive. But nice.

Malt smoke and toffee a very interesting brew. Page 460 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide and only 235 of his 500 Classic Brews to go.

Aroma of nuts, plum and raisins. Dark brown with a tiny, white head. Taste of chocolate, with some intriguing acidity.

I would pigeonhole this as an "old ale." Fruity sweet aroma, mild in the flavor, reddish-brown color. Good head at first; doesn’t retain. A touch of sour.

At $4 and up for a bottle (I dropped 6 on this for crying out loud), this falls into the category of a Ratings Whore beer. Go now, go sell your ratings services for 20 minutes to this liquid, it’s not illegal to do so. Yet.

A nice ale. Aroma is sweet with mild hops. Appearance is nice and dark brown. Appears like guinness with a creamy bubbly look that disappaits. Flavor is rich with mild hops. A fair beer but very expensive.
