Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Bottle-poured reddish brown w/a slight tan head. Had a nice sweet roasted malt aroma. Had a bitter malt flavor of an English Ale, but had a little more hops than some. Had some roasted nuts, toffee, brown sugar, w/a slight smoked flavor. Long smooth finish w/some carbination. Alcohol is well hidden. Good brew.

Bottled, pint Very dark brown. Fading tan head. Big malt aroma with a lovely sweet roasted scent as well. Heavenly mouthfeel. Light, creamy and dry finish. Flavors of less than sweet figs, dates, caramel with mild bitterness. Very good

Bottle 52F Pint. Big strong malty aroma, great sweetness, no preceptible hop fragrances. Dark brown in color, fairly opaque, great brown head that faded quickly. Tons of rich dark malts, slight smokiness, oak is definately noticble. The taste is quite warm and very delicious, yet 7.2abv was not perceptible. Mouthfeel was medium with nice carbonation. A very tasty beer, and enjoyable but at $6 a bottle its a bit expensive to enjoy often.

Bottle. Pours a dark mahogany colour, tiny tan head that disappears instantly. Aroma is dark malt, banana, peat, sweet quite strong alcohol. Plum and autumnal fruits in there too. Initial mouthfeel is quite carbonated, taste is smooth, inoffensive, still some banana there, sweet malt, some woodiness that continues right to the end, with some plum showing towards the end. Has a little bit of a bitter attack on the swallow. Excellent, not too heavy, not too bitter, not too alcoholic in the mouth. Well rounded and a joy.

From a 33 cl. bottle poured dark amber color with smallish head. Carbonation is low. Malt aroma along with smell of fermented dark brown sugar. Very smooth and well balanced. Can smell the alcohol, but no overwhelming alcohol taste. I detect a bit of peat/iodine appropriate for the scots style. Very nice. I’ll have another.

bottle shared with Crackedkettle at the Cracked Kettle in A’dam: pours a nice dark brown amber color with a smallish head. Aroma is very nice with malty, woody aroma. A beer that would go very well next to the fire. Flavors are much the same as the nose. Very balanced matlyness though that does not go in the direction of being overly sweet. It quite an enjoyable and apporachable beer. Medium heavy palate.

7.2% ABV 11.2 oz bottle. Brown to copper color with creamy tan head. Rich malty aroma of sweet caramel, molasses, dark fruitiness, faint vanilla and a touch of alcohol. Smooth flavors that meld together. Starts off with semi sweet malts then the sweetness strengthens as with cherry fruitiness and molasses enter the flavor fray. Very nice malty tasting brew.
