Held to light nice mahagany body with thin dark tan head. Body texture was thin but enough sweet fruit flavor to cover the alcohol presence. Alcohol on the palate. Would like to have this on cask, thinking it would be better than from a bottle. rjulian24 (18), USA

Nice ruby colored beer, very clear with decent lacing and some alcoholic legs.
Aroma: Smooth with satisfying caramel, smoky character and some alcohol that blends well when swirled.
Flavor is nice as the caramel, smoke and alcohol all standout. Alcohol is clean and not very phenolic.
Palate is thick and smooth.
All in all a very good beer excellent to style. I enjoyed everything but the price. Maybe needed a little more aging to really blend all the characters together. HopheadHans (755), Bay Area, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 21, 2006 Bottle. Pours with a dark brown color and a small head. The aromas are of molasses, caramel and grains. Hints of pine due tt the hops. The flavor is fairly complex there is a distinct sweetness
at the beginning that turns into a bitter finish. One can discern choclolate, first then more like bread and hops at the end. There is a thick, oily mouthfeel to it. kimcgolf (835), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 17, 2006 Pours from the bottle to a dark brown color with ruby tint, dark brown head that lingers well, and slowly dissipates to decent lacing. Sweet malty aroma of chocolate and toffee, with more of the same in the taste. Nice thick body with a hint of alcohol creeping in at the end leaves for a nice long finish. voota (765), Melbourne, Australia
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 14, 2006 Clear dark copper with a very creamy off-white head. Aroma of raisen, light alcohol, charred wood and toffee. Very interesting. Full bodied and quite bitter, but amazingly smooth, flavours of coffee, toffee, oak and roasted nuts. So complex. The finish is not too alcoholic, but very bitter and long lasting, coating the throat with all types of roast bitter flavours. Absolutely magnificent! Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA

Aroma is of sweet fruits, roasted malts, chocolate, and caramel. Flavor starts off with the roasted malts, chocolate, and fruit. Gives way to an oak and alcohol flavor. Another decent brew from Traquair. benpickens (145), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
