Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Pours with a beautiful deep red brown body with a small white head. Aroma is dark fruits with some caramelly sweetness. This is definately a "liquid bread" tasting beer with notes of dark dried fruit. I also tasted a bitter yeastiness in the finish that took away from the overall effect. Very nice creamy palate. Reminiscent of some of the best Belgians, but not quite as good.

12 oz bottle, via MrWalker. Pours a translucent chestnut colored body under a small, fizzy, and quickly fading head. Very malty aroma with sweet smelling spices. Almost a candy like in character. Notes of caramel and toffee. Flavor is sweet and spicy with lots of carmalized sugar, ginger, and herbs. Finish is very sweet with well hidden alcohol. Mouthfeel is very smooth and slightly sticky on the finish. Moderate fine carbonation. Pretty good beer, but it does get a little tiring on the palate by the end of the bottle with all the sweetness. I couldn’t help thinking that this would pair really well with a brown sugar glazed ham.

Uhhh, ummm, what, wha, hmmm...did I say ummm? Not quite what I was expecting. Despite the deceiving aroma this beer boasts a bouquet of fine scotch.

Beautiful floral, yeasty aroma. Surprisingly light mouthfeel with flavors of bread dough, Coca Cola, shortbread cookies, and au jus. Finishes a little thin, but this beer is all about the aroma.

Deep beer bottle brown coloration. Nose is deep with malt. Coffee spice and cheese rind notes. Mouth is plums and carmel, a light concord sweetness. Lasting bitter finish, firm yet smooth feel. Confortable beer, yet shallow compared to their other offerings.

Very reddish-brown colored brew, and an amazing head! Long-lived and off-white, it is still as tall as when I poured the glass! The aroma is sweet, clean, and malty! The taste is initially a bit bland to me but the malt takes over very quickly and it turns into a scotch-like finish, very pleasing! The alcohol content is deceptive, and it *feels* stronger than 7.2 percent! The finish is clean and a bit sticky, especially on the lips. This a complex brew, and I can imagine it tasting differently at different times. I’ll definitely try it again!
