Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

Beer pours chestnut in color with red highlights and a tan colored head that rapidly dissipates. Flavor is malty, smokey and peaty. Very enjoyable use of malt, with enought other interesting charactheristics surronding the delightful malt to make it intriguing. Aroma has notes of sweet malt, peat and just a hint of alcohol. A really nice beer.

Pours a black beer with a nice white foam. A complex, medium bitter flavour and a long dry finish. Hard to find anything special taste, it simply tastes good. I really liked this beer!

First off I’m a single malt scotch lover, which makes me think I’ll be particularly fond of this beer in the way it’s made. Pours a dark brown..looks slightly hazy from what i can see through with a small tan ring around the edge. Aroma is so nice, single malt scotch right off with a nice sweet smell to go alongside. Flavors are great, that malt really kicks in like a good scotch. Mildly sweet on the tongue and as it finishes goes into a nice dry and tidy flavor with a kick of alcohol. So nice in your mouth, it’s like a smooth thin milkshake...man this mouthfeel is great! I think this is a fantastic beer. Well Done!

Aroma is sparse at best. Pours a dark ruby brown, thin head. Buttery palate. Wine-like, dry finish. This seems like a beer that doesn’t know what style it wants to be.

Dark brown body, light brown head, fast gone; Quite deep nose with clarity and complexity, incredible and interesting balance between malt and hop: warm sweet licorice, more powerful strong licorice, dough, yeast, together with pine and grapefruit (lacks power to be perfect); The body has balance but is a bit to the sweet side, the texture is a bit sticky, carbonation is great and fills up the mouth completely: It finishes of very long again quite sticky, a bit sweet mostly of licorice but also dough and yeast. Great nose, but the beer is messed up by a strangely textured body.

Bottle from Texas Wine Cellars in Fredericksburg, Texas

Pours a nice, dark brown, like a good batch of tea. Aroma is 1/4 part rotting garbage and 3/4 parts fruit, most notably strawberry, raspberry, and peach. Flavor is a liquified version of the aroma, minus the rotting garbage aspect. Typical rounded malt aftertaste of a good UK brew. Nice roasted character emerges in the aftertaste. Grassy hints are evident as well. Reminds me of a sweet Belhaven Scotish Ale. Palate is buttery and slick. A good beer; not great, but good.

Deep nut brown, moderate beige head. Sweet caramel/tofee aroma, a little earthy. Rich roasted malt palate, something vaguely mocha, with a hint of sweet spice. Almost dunkel-ish in character in some ways. Terrific!

Medium beige head on a mahogonay body. Sweet, nutmeg, caramel aromas. Rich tasting maltiness, toffee like with a dark fruity finish. A bit of smokyness as well. Mysterious flavors and aromas, but it makes for a damn nice beer. Medium mouthfeel on this, and medium CO2. Overall, very nice, wish it werent so damn expensive.
