Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

330 ml bottle. Clear dark brown. Throws a thick creamy orangey white head that clings to the glass. Whipped cream aroma. Sweet custard notes. Very mellow rich silky malty flavour. In all gentle flavours. Medium-bodied. Rounded roasted malts. Slightly bitter aftertaste. A little chocolate amongst the malts. Peppery earthyness.

Pours deep mahogany into a trappist glass. Head quickly dissipates to hug rim. Dough, date and fig notes. Slightly sour fruit palate and full-bodied with a dry, lasting dried fig and alcohol finish. A little too pricey for what it is.

Smell is very malty and sweet - a bit woody. Good head with a few mm staying there a long time. Taste is powerful stoutish with strong tones of chocolate and roasted malts with a clear smokiness. A bit alcoholic in the taste. 3.3

1984 Vintage bottle bought at Kulminator, Antwerp. A light muddy deep red amber with a thin bubbly beige film head. Aroma is extremely port mixed with caramel and oak, some prunes, lots of raisins and a little chocolate. Very low carbonation, making it extremely oily and again very similar to a port. Flavour is sweet, strong, sticky, port, wood, toffee, lightly roasted and a chocolate finish. So much better than a fresh one! 4.6

malty, woody aroma. brownish ruby with small, tan, quickly diminishing head. lightly smokey, peaty, nutty, woody, roasted malt flavors. medium bodied. sweet on the tongue then turning dry towards the finish with a caramel aftertaste. initially i wasn’t that impressed but by the end of the beer it was wonderful.

Medium dark amber. Nice head but didn’t sustain which was disappointing. Little musty aroma mixed with some chocolate. Flavor is exactly like the aroma. Really nice brew but not worth the $4.99 for a 11.2 oz. Won’t drink again just b/c of the price.

Pours a dark mahogany with a thin off white short lived cap. Aromas of dark fruit, raisin and chocolate Flavour is a bit sour (but not too much), dark molasses, prune/raisin, roasty slightly smokey, and bitter chocolate. Alcohol blends very well. Good balance.

"Poured a deep dark red color with small head left good lacing. Aroma was malty rasins. Flavor was creamy sweet roasted malts and chocolate. Solid beer would have again."

Very nice brown color. Full of rich malty flavor with a touch of smokey flavor that gives it that scottish flavor. Not really any noticable hop flavor, basically all malt.
