Very roasty malty flavor! Very nice beer. The roasting is not overwelming. This is a very fine beer I will be happy to drink again! Cheers! HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA

Dried fruit, roast, some smoke, and an earthy bitterness in the flavor. Medium in body with a creamy mouthfeel. Good beer. I like the Jacpbite Ale a little more. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 16, 2006 Updated: Feb 17, 2006Pours almost opaque with a smallish head that quickly dissipates to a thin bubbly film that lingers around the perimeter of the glass. Nose of malt and subtle dates with very little (none that I was able to detect) hop presence. Strong roasted malt flavor with hints of alcohol. There is a bitterness as well as more dark fruit taste in the finish. A complex brew. Liked it better than the Jacobite Ale. bobaidan (364), Farmington, Connecticut, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 9, 2006 Pours a fairly dark brown, with a smallish head. Aroma is mostly matl with a hint of sournsee which is not at all present in the flavor. Flavors are of roasted malt. Very little in the way of hop bitterness or flavor. Not at all overly sweet. A very tasty brew that I would have to recommend. GG (1640), NorCal, California, USA

A rather sweet brew with toasty notes and a malt crunch in there. Very little hops and this is one of those beers that gets better as it gets a bit warmer. If you see it grab it because it’s a solid beer.
