Smell is chocolate and smoky peatiness. Taste is smoky, creamy and almost chocolatey but not quite. Creamy but light body and a lot like a scotch ale. Quite soft carbonation and a faint balance of hops. Decent overall. Snojerk321 (2021), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 11, 2008 11oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear dark brown with a fizzy beige head that dissipated quickly. Nose held maple syrup, caramel, toffee and some spiced aromas. Flavor was quite sweet and rich with toasted malts and candied dark fruits. A medium bodied brew, great stuff. jb (1058), Rochester, New York, USA

Not much of a head to this dark murky reddish brew. Chocolate + plums + smoke in the nose. Sweet initial taste, along with small bubbles, followed by roasted notes that takes you down easy. Enjoyable. Rune (2850), Tromsø, Norway
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2008 Sampled from a bottle provided by Øl Konsortiet at EBF 08. Russet-like body colour with a moderate, beige head. Aroma of spiced fruits. Vinous taste of dark fruits and malts, herbs and liquorice. A touch of hop resin in the aftertaste. I’ll go for a bottle of this one when I get the chance (night cap, late on 12.09.208). TheEpeeist (1484), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA

It’s ABV is betrayed by a lightness to what would appear, by looks, to be a heavy beer.
Has a smooth finish that is long but without any bitter hues of aftertaste.
Just a hint of carbonation leds the flavors bounce....dark, malty, chocolately even, but always with a persistent coriander bias.
Highly recommend even at relatively high price Hudspart (374), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA
