| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | May 5, 2008 Dark ruby with a bubbly lasting tan head. Deep malt aroma, with dried fruit, some port and unknown herbs. A dry, fruity malt flavour, notes of licorice, and some alcohol showing. Big mouthfeel and warming alcohol. mikey (336), farmington, Utah, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 30, 2008 Poured an opaque ebony brown with a thin, fizzy carpet of foam that disappeared leaving a flat brown slick. The nose was nutty and malty with a strong, rich, burnt cocoa aroma. The flavor starts with thick molasses like malts, biscuit and chocolate. Then a strong coriander spiciness comes forward and remains until the finish. The feel was full and robust. I’m not a huge fan of Scotch and Spiced Ales. However this does have some intriging qualities. It’s full-on, in your face style is appaeling. I would recomed giving it a shot. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2008 12oz bottle from Knightly Spirits. Pours a dark red almost black, awesome looking in the glass with a small beige head. Nose is caramel, chocolate and anise. No smoke which is a bit suprising. Wow, what a unique tasting beer. This is definitely a maltheads beer. Cinnamon and anise up front that give way to carmel and chocolate malts. Almost no bitterness aside from a light hop bite that is gone almost immediately. Moderate palate but considering the abv this is a really easy drinking beer. Absolutely unique and incredibly good. Another stellar offering from this fine brewery. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 27, 2008 Dark brown pour with moderate head and lacing. Good strong spicey aroma. The flavor in this was really strong spices, moderate doppelbock like earthy malts and strong yeastiness. The beer had a decent carbonation level. This was ok, but just wasn’t totally doing it for me. glkaiser (1171), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 25, 2008 Dark cherry brown with thin head. Aroma is mostly corriander and fruit. Taste is a wonder of complexity. Corriander, pepper, malty sweetness and toasted malt. Very dry, slightly bitter finish. Love it. durhambeer (1215), Durham, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 25, 2008 Quite dark brownish red pour with large big-bubbly head. Malt, licorice, coriander, roasty notes are all quite present. This is a sipping ale, especially considering the price. Quite complex. One of my favorite labels, too. wingman333 (244), San Antonio, Texas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 19, 2008 Dark brown and not fizzy, tastes mostly like coffee. There is an underlying richness to it, it’s velvety somewhat. It was fairly good but I was disappointed. Very high price.
