Commercial Description:
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

33 cl bottle via trade with dankman38 - Pours a hazy brown color with a thin light tan head that faded quickly. Aroma is full of dark esters. Flavor is toasted malt and esters. Fruit flavors linger on the palate. Medium body. A good beer. Thanks Mike.

Bottle. Pretty nose: plums, dates, raisins, cherries, malt. Nice! Quite flavorful. Coriander, chocolate, cherries and malt on the palate. Finishes almost wine-like. Fairly full bodied.

Pours ruby-brown with a fizzy tan head that diminishes in an instant to an island of tiny bubbles and a ring around the edge of the glass. An enticing aroma hits you with dark fruits and deep roasted maltiness, anise, black cherries and spicy rum cake. Medium to full-bodied and slick with a dry bitter finish and a hint of alcohol warmth. Vinous and rich with notes of coriander, chocolate, black cherry, dry red wine, pepper and roasted malts, finishing quite dry and spicy. A very nice beer and one that lends itself well to experimentation with food pairings.

11.2oz Bottle $2.99 Sam’s Downers Grove Traquair Jacobite pours a clear garnet with glowing mahogany highlights when held directly to the light. One finger ecru head forms on the pour that falls to a skim coat rather quickly. Good looking brew. This beer smells fantastic. Nothing at all like I thought it would smell. Jacobite has the usual aromas of roasted malts and a slight hint of chocolate. The big difference here is the coriander. It leaves an unbelievable refreshing orange aroma that makes this beer utterly unique. Flavor is right along the lines of the aroma. Some toasted and roasted malts show themselves in the flavor. There’s a tremendous burst of flavor mid-palate from the generous amount of coriander used. Great refreshing orange and herbal character. Finishes with a solid dose of hops to balance things out. This beer is about as easy drinking as you can find. The high abv is the only reason it’s not getting the highest rating possible. Very refreshing. This beer just blows my mind. I expected nothing along these lines. The addition of coriander adds an amazing needed refreshing quality. This is a superb beer. 8/13/07

Very little head. Wonderful aroma largely due to the added coriander. Nice smooth taste. Not as much depth as I would like. Avery good drinkable beer.

Deep ruby amber almost mahogany hue with a little white head. Nose of caramel and subtle hops. Notes of cantalope and cherries with a robust earthy finish. Flavorful and quite refreshing!

Bottle -- Dark ruby-tinged black with a small beige head without much retention. The aroma is wonderful, almost too much to fit up my nose: over-ripe fruit, steamed pudding with caramel sauce, chocolate and some earthy roastedness. Vageuly oily medium to full palate with a little water as well. Flavour is so good: more over-ripe fruit, sweet earthy maltiness, chocolate and a little more roastedness. I loved it!
