Commercial Description:
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

Bottle, courtesy of HogTownHarry. Poured a thick & somewhat dark. The nose is hit with toffee, caramel, coffee and brown sugar. The taste really takes after its aroma with the addition of molasses, minus the coffee. I enjoyed this beer quite somewhat. Though, pairing it with a sirloin burger is not recommended.

Rich, sweet toffee aroma. Sweetness on the entry, but it finishes dry with spices.

Pours a very dark amber with a small light tan head that quickly fades. Aroma is of malt, coriander, spice. Flavor is malt, licorice, spice, and ripened fruits. Mouthfeel seemed just a tad thin but still overall very nice.

(Bottle BBE 05/2017) Pleasant aroma of roasted malt, caramel, alcohol, licorice and anise. Dark red brown colour and brownish, small head with a hint of lacing. Roasted malty, spicy (anise) and licorice flavour. Lively carbonated, oily, slightly alcoholic and medium to full-bodied palate. Tasty brew! 24/06/07

330 ml bottle. Reddish dark with a small light brown head. Aroma has a lot of caramel in it blended with coffee. Roasted flavor with hints of caramel and some dark chocolate. Leaves a bit bitter finish but at the same time a very tasteful experience when you get used to the taste. I can’t say that it stands out but is one of the better ales out there.

Bottle poured a clear deep dark brown with ruby highlights and a small lasting amber head leaving behind nice lacing as I drink the beer.Aromas of carmel, rum, dark fruit, coriander and some vanilla and cocoa notes. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, coriander, dark fruit, rum, light vanilla and a hint of milk chocolate with a smooth lingering spice finish.

Deep brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is dark fruits, wine, cherries, caramel, and a litle alcohol. Smooth mouth. Flavor is very fun/unique. Coriander, caramel, cherries, dark fruits, and some malt. Finishes dry with a little biterness. Not much else like it, very enjoyable.
