Commercial Description:
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

This didnt have a pop at all when I opened it but it poured with a little head. Aroma was a little odd. Fruit loops, jolly ranchers, caramel, and some light citrus. Flavor was caramely malt and some coriander. Had a light body and I couldnt taste the alcohol at all. Left an odd aftertaste on the tongue.

Pours deep brown with a dark red / bronze hue with a generous, but short lasting brown head. The aroma is wonderful and unique - sweet dark fruits (cherries, raisins), rich soda-shop malt, light spice, roasted caramel, milk and more. Medium / thick body with a milk-like smoothness at the beginning with a light finish with a bit of fizzy carbonation. The taste is very good, but not up to the amazing aroma. It starts with sharp spice, tinny anise, sweet toasted malt, light nuttiness and a bit of wateriness. The finish has more black licorice, coriander and a pleasing sweetness. Very nice beer that gets a hearty thumbs up. Highly recommended unique beer.

330 ml bottle, best before Jun ’14. Pours brownish black with a thin off white head. Aroma is sweet fruit, smoke, chocolate, slight coriander. Very good aroma. Taste at first reminds me of apple juice, but then the smoke, chocolate and coriander spice comes in. Thinner then I thought it would be from the looks, watery and very little to no carbonation. Finish has a little cigar tobacco taste. This might go well with a stogie. Very good and interesting.

I think I first had this one at Volo, and have sampled it many times since. Pours a very dark almost opaque brown. Has a strong corriander nose with a full malty spicey taste, with hints of chocolate and liquorice. Is a tad alcoholic in taste, but a wonderful sipping beer. This is really a unique beer.

33 cL bottle from CapFlu. Pours muddy, lightly particulate mahagony with spare off-white rocky head, moslty diminishing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, nutty, meal), light hops (herbs), average yeast (dough) with notes of toffee, honey, pear and spices. Medium bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation and a metallic finish. Moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness; hearbal roasted caramel flavor.

Bottle. Sweet nose bursts with chocolate and spice, malt, toffee, and a little funk. Coriander and light floral notes. Dark dark ruby body with no head but a strange counterclockwise swirling vortex effect. Taste is sweet and lightly smoked with heavy but well-blended coriander. Very floral, led by the coriander (floriander?). Touch of flat but really well made root beer. Medium-full velvety body. Spice paradise? A complex, delicious sipper.
