Commercial Description:
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

12oz bottle courtesy of HogTownHarry. Thanks, Harry! Cola-brown appearance; off-white head with retention at the edges and decent lacing. Plenty of coriander and sweet malts in the aroma; smells slightly hot / boozy; red fruit and maple syrup. Full mouthfeel: maple syrup, cotton candy, a healthy dose (well done) of coriander, some milk chocolate; slightly hot; medium finish showing candy sweetness, some roasted malts and spice.

Bottle from Haket. Very spicy, wuite a variety of tastes that I couldn’t quite identify. Beautiful aftertaste. Hint of cherry without the sourness. What a cherry ripe might taste like if it were alcoholic and cost $100. Actually reminded me a bit of a muscat.

12oz bottle pours dark brown with a fair beige head that didn’t stay very long. Aromas of plums, raisins, caramel, roasted malts, and chocolate. Flavor is raisins, roasted malts, plums, caramel, and chocolate. Medium body.. Not much carbonation. Soft mouthfeel. Alcohol covered well but there is warmth after the glass is finished..

Not sure if it’s supposed to be this way but had no head whatsoever. Minimal carbonation. Perhaps a bad bottle? Flavor is good though, smooth, good roasted malty flavor. May have to get another to compare.

Dark brown-reddish hue, with a diminishing beige head, nice sweet toasted malt nose, with a strong coriander spiciness, toffeeish accent, caramel and chocolatey notes, and dark dried fruits in the aroma follows through on a full-bodied palate with a sweet toasted malt character, with a hint of black coffee, dried dark fruits of plums, raisins, dates, spicy coriander, and faint anise, toffee note, leading towards a sweet malt graininess, in a lingering spiciness finish.

Bottled. Dark ruby, decent off-white head. Toasted, roasted aroma. Very malty, dark malts, roasted, hides ABV well. My "easiest non-rated good beer" was slightly dissapointing. (7/4/7/3/13 3.4). Re-rated bottle from Alko. Dark ruby color, small tan head. Lots of raisins in the nose together with some alcohol. Very soft palate. Dark fruits - dates, raisins, plums. Sweet edge and some alcohol. Rounded sipping brew - needs some ageing. ((7/4/7/4/15 3.7)

Dark reddish brown coloration... almost black except for around the edges. No head and just a bit of fizz on the surface. Aroma is a work of art. Sweet sugary notes with dark fruit, molasses and maybe some berry scents, too. Flavor is a bit crisper and thinner than I expected. There is a lot more wood/earth/peat type flavoring than the nose let on. That said, this all blends together extremely well.
