| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 5, 2006 330 ml bottle. Very dark brown, hints of gray. Seemingly hazy, but it is difficult to tell in this light. Very little head, only some white islands the edges. Complex spice aroma. Plummy, grainy, raisiny aroma with some complex alcohols. Biscuits. Dark chocolate and cocoa powder at first. Light sourish in the mouth. Quite a bit of chocolate flavours combined with dried fruits. Light-bodied with a powdery texture. Some oxidized notes. Little hop aroma to be found, but a distinct hop bitterness throughout. Finishes very drying. jzzbassman (849), New Albany, Mississippi, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 23, 2006 Pours a cola like dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma was dominated by alcohol, but the flavor was not as hot. Cocoa, malt, and a velvet texture made this a very nice brew. beerbiere (101), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 16, 2006 Purple color, low carbonation, large bubbles, small head receding to a coffee like cream. Aroma of coriander and blackcurrant. Initially very sweet, shifts to a pleasant roastiness reminiscent of coffee. Mouthfeel was at the same time round and watery. Strange but reminds me of an hybrid between Crush grape soda, rootbeer and coffee!? Interesting. After reading the label and seeing its volume of alcohol (8%), I was skeptical, but after tasting it, I was both surprised and impressed. You can taste the alcohol, but it doesn’t at all violate. You get the sense that this ale isn’t an ale that is made for the sheer purpose of getting the drinker drunk -- the high alcohol content adds to the bite.
This ale is very thick and dark, and its taste/smell is somewhat reminiscent of black liquorice. But don’t let this throw you off, I dislike black liquorice, but love this ale. The ingredients read: Spring Water, Malt, Hops, Yeast & Spices. A quality ale, without a doubt. tomthompson89 (1489), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The aroma is port wine, coriander, grain dust, blueberries. The flavor is chocolatey, oatmeal-like, peat, tobacco, and powdered sugar. The palate is rich, lightly smokey, creamy, good feeling. bluevegie (2215), Perth, Australia
