Commercial Description:
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

A nice dark black-brown hue. Rich aromas have an anise and chocolate character that follows through on a smooth and creamy, full-bodied palate. Spice notes linger on in the finish.

This is truly one of the best scottish ales that I have ever tried. Very full bodied and flavourful with a fine head.

Pours a very dark reddish-brown color with a thick tan head. Aroma is of dried fruit, spice, corriander, and a hint of chocolate and hops. Flavor is strong of corriander and the other spices with chocolate, dried fruit, molasses, and a slight finish of hops. Pleasantly surprised by this brew, very delicious.

Chocolate color. No head which was disappointing. Malty sweet aroma. little chocolate in the nose too. Slightly dry palate. Sweet flavor with a bit of a spicy aftertaste. Interesting mix with the coriander.

Muddy dark brown, nearly black. A rapid pour produced only a misty, bubbly, cap that flattened out super quickly. A semi oily residue coats the glass as only a few small strings and spots of tannish lace decides to stick. Aroma is big and beautiful. Complexly dark and smokey with super dark, charred raisin and plum. Deeply tangy with a heavy set dark, thick molasses with a wonderfully little punch of peaty smokened alcoholic wamth within the nose thats quite portly. Taste is just as good with a smooth display of darkened things that smoke and cinder on the palate with melting dark fruityness and saturated maltyness. Paled tang in sense with molasses, raisin, and plum. Bold, yet giving way to a smoothness of caramel, roasties of fruit skins, and a smokey alluring finish of twisted dark toffee and some weird root beer like spice. Vanilla and chocolate notes along with some peat and tarry tobacco-like flavors meld into a pudding of warmth as it soaks up the soft corpuscles of the palate leaving a smoothly manufactured fullness in the mouth. Feel is slowly medium and quite dark with a dullish tang that hangs around for length as it gets all complex and fun with the flavors. Seems a bit thin at the front but builds and then lasts for one stretched out volume of mouth coating warmth and smooth oilyness. A long lasting sipper that dawns its own grace in acceptance for flavor, body, and warmth. Quite a nice brew. Recommended.

Bottle: Brown color, almost no head, off-color. Aroma of blueberries, spices, dark fruit, some alcohol, some hops. Taste of spices, fruits. I don’t know what coriander tastes like. Very spicy taste in the back of my throat. Lots of flavor.
