Pretty complex in fact. It leaves a very tasty aftertaste. Not for the faint of heart, thoug. Very pleasant altogether. BeerMountie (106), Bonavista, Newfoundland, Canada
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 13, 2006 This is my first beer of this style. When I opened it first I was not certain what to think of it the spices seemed overpowering. However while finishing it I came to appreciate the complexity of the beer. It pours a dark brown with a red tint. There was a small tan head which quickly diminishes to a ring. There are a lot of aromas in there is fruit, spices and an over all sweetness. The flavour it of malt and you can taste the alcohol in there. I want to thank Oakes for this one I will have to try some other spice beers to see how they rank in comparison to this one. smcd (366), USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 8, 2006 I was pleasantly surprised by this beer the first time I had it. Coriander spiciness predominates the nose. An almost orangely quality, but not quite citric, permeates the flavor. A rich brown with quickly disipating offwhite head. The best way to describe the flavor is that it taste like really strong Earl Grey tea. which happens to be my favorite tea. has a slight alcohol bite which is nice. very nice mouth feel. a very good unique beer. wish it was cheeper thornecb (1813), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 7, 2006 Updated: Mar 8, 2006Pours mahogany brown into a tumbler. Very effervesent with quickly receding mocha-colored head. Date and plum aromas - dare I say play dough? Burnt caramel and molasses with a slightly bitter, dry lasting finish. Very similar to a trappist ale, but not quite as full-bodied. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 6, 2006 Mahogony pour with a thin milky head. Fruity and spicy aroma with nettles and corriander. The perfume corriander flavor is couched by mild caramel malt. Well balanced and pleasing ale, though simpler than I had anticipated. Would go well with Beef Madras. screwball (802), Motala, Sweden
