Commercial Description:
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of raisin, dark fruits, brown sugar, very sweet. Flavor strongly of brown sugar, raisins. Thick mouthfeel. This beer is sweet but not oppressing, reminds me of a calmer/more complex/less intense DFH Raison D’extra. Quite good.

Bottle, best before June 2014. Aroma of earthy, dark fruits, the darkest of the dark, rich, sweet malt, richest of the rich. Flavor brings no surprises, continues its quest of decadence. Somehow manages to avoid becoming overly sweet, but it’s hanging right on the edge the whole time. A sipper, and a good one.

Dark brown color with small tan head and no lacing. Aroma and flavor have strong malts and light chocolate and raisin notes. Good but expensive
