(Bottle BBE 05/2017) Pleasant aroma of roasted malt, caramel, alcohol, licorice and anise. Dark red brown colour and brownish, small head with a hint of lacing. Roasted malty, spicy (anise) and licorice flavour. Lively carbonated, oily, slightly alcoholic and medium to full-bodied palate. Tasty brew! 24/06/07

Dec 23, 2009 Wow one of the BEST beer’s I’ve enjoyed, one worth revisiting. Nose mineral and faint dark berry, taste full fruit and sweet pinot & muscat grape. Dark blueberry, liquorice, long deep fruity-malty finisn showing honey and crushed petals of violet. Magnificent.

Dec 17, 2009 "Ye Jacobites by name, yer faults I will proclaim," goes the auld Scots song but I’m damned if I can find any flaws to proclaim. This is an elegant sipping ale, sweet, sticky, lightly spiced and very moreish for its strength. In the glass, it’s as black as the Butcher Cumberland’s heart and keeps its head better than my clan chief, who lost his at the hands of the Hanoverians after the last Jacobite rebellion ended in bloody defeat at Culloden - beheaded in London. The aroma is subtle and enticing - clove, blackcurrants, chocolate pudding and yeast. Perfect mouthfeel - soft and creamy. Incredibly easy-drinking for an 8% ale. There’s not a hint of alcohol in a beautifully balance flavour mix. Tiramisu, soft chocolate, yum. A true regional classic and probably the best Scottish beer I’ve had to date. Dec 9, 2009 Bottle. Pours a mahogany body with some light ruby accents, with a tan head. Dark fruity esters, abundant fresh chewy plums, raisins, dark vinous notes, port and some light licorice tones. Chewy chocolate notes with some light peat y tones amongst the caramel plum y malt bill. Awesome Ale.

Dec 6, 2009 Sötét vöröses barna színe van a habja pedig sárgás fehér,vékony és gyorsan eltűnik.Illata erősen korianderes és dió likőrös.Íze igen fűszeres,bors,koriander,fenyőgyanta és tealevél is érződik benne.Karamellásan édeskés és egy kis füge is érződik.Nagyon összetett és rafinált!Az alkohol tartalma csiklandozza a nyelvet,szép kerek teste van.Utóíze finoman és komlósan kesernyés és gyógyfüves,hosszan tart.Nagyon különleges és finom sör.Magas alkohol tartalma és fűszerezettsége miatt akár emésztés segítőnek is kitűnően megfelel.

Nov 27, 2009 Pours a very dark red-brown with an oddly light-colored and quickly fading head. Strong aroma of sweet malt, raspberry, raisin, clove, licorice. Taste is sweet malt to start progressing to mildly tart fruit and drying out into a long herbal spicy finish. Medium body and lively carbonation. Quite different. Not nearly as strongly flavored as I expected. It actually tastes a bit watered down. Could be an off bottle.

Nov 14, 2009 [330ml bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring] Nice looking beer - a deep ruby-brown, although with virtually no head. It’s possibly a little too fizzy. Beyond that - well, it’s really just sweet and sticky. Treacle and caramel malts, with some raisins and hints of spice in the finish. Alcohol shows. Not sure what all the fuss is about this one.

Nov 3, 2009 Bottle 33. Amber beer with a strange malt aroma, bit sour at the finish or it’s the spices?? bitter and roasted. Quite disapointed about it.
