It has a rich toasted aroma and a warming feeling. A sour finish which is really pleasant. I would say that this ale is closely related to a stout or a porter. It is good, but not great. The elements of taste are nuances rather then the relevations of flavour I expect in a really great ale.

Bottled. Very dark amber colour, small brown head. Caramellish malty aroma with some fruity hints. Sweet caramel and sugary flavour with long hoppy finish. Well done. Alcohol also present, but fits in well. Chocolatish and fruitish hoppy aftertaste.

Dark brown, small tanned head. Liquerish butterscotch aroma, maybe a bit smokey. Toffeeish, sweet, some chocolate, slightly roasted. Nicely balanced, gives good feeling in mouth.

Nice malty nose, with strong notes of fresh tobacco leaves. Dark amber body, with a small off-white head. Malty flavor, with a very light roast, notes of tobacco. Very good one, reminded me more of a mild ale.

Pours a deep mahogany ruby with a frothy, well-lacing light tan head. Aroma is sweet, peaty and has some dark caramel notes. Body starts with a mild caramel sweetness leading to a thinner, dry bready finish. Palate is slightly airy. A decent Scottish ale, but needs a little more peat and malt.

Poured a clear brown with a ruby tinit and small off-white head. Sweet malty aroma of brown sugar, molasses, and a hint of smoke and alcohol. Flavor was malty and peaty with toffee and toastedness (?).

Nice looking brew, deep in colour with a firm white head. A rather complex nose of sweet malt and spice, which is also found on the palate. Another quality beverage from Traquair. 33cl bottle from the Selkirk Deli, in Selkirk, funnily enough!

Bottle: Dark Brown beer, cola colored with a small off-white head. Rich malty aroma, prunes and loamy earth. Malty with a vegetal quality (carrots?). Some sweetness in the middle, but subtle.
