Jul 10, 2008 Brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is very malty, liquorice, caramel, brown sugar. Taste is liqourice, root beer, caramel, brown sugar. Interesting beer, good stuff.

Jun 16, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown colour with a thin off-white head. The aroma is malty and a bit spicy and fruity with notes of caramel and milk chocolate. The flavour is malty and a bit spicy with notes of caramel and milk chocolate. Very thin on the mid-palate! A bit bland. Traquair is able to do so much better than this!

May 11, 2008 33 cL bottle. Pours deep hazzlenut brown with an amber glare and clear. Dense chocolate brown head. Chocolate and mild fruity aroma. Flavour is mild and with chocolate initially. Sharp hoppy and roasted malt flavour following. Smoothens slowly out with a nice dense malt and chocolate flavour. Ends a bit herbal in the finish.

May 8, 2008 Bottle. Medium high but long lasting off-white head. Very dark clear ruby body. Sweet fruity aroma and of course roasted malt with a bit of caramel. Mild and sweet liquorice flavor without the feared sugary feeling. To describe as bitter would however be wrong. Low carbonation and a lovely long liquorice aftertaste. Nice surprise.

Feb 1, 2008 The first time I had this was in Traquair Castle in Scotland. 3£ to see the brewery museum, and not the rest of the castle (would have beer 5£). The so called museum was a souvenir shop, with half a wall of museum - so a money-trap would have been a better name. But anyhow, I fell in love with this beer, and have had it several times since then. It’s brown/black with a moderate head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel and licorice. The flavour is incredibly nice. It’s neither thick nor oily beer, but it has a lot of body and soul, and the notes of licorice, caramel and spice melt together in a very nice overall impression, and I have a weakness for this one!
