| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 8, 2008 Bottle. Medium high but long lasting off-white head. Very dark clear ruby body. Sweet fruity aroma and of course roasted malt with a bit of caramel. Mild and sweet liquorice flavor without the feared sugary feeling. To describe as bitter would however be wrong. Low carbonation and a lovely long liquorice aftertaste. Nice surprise. KimJohansen (7132), Copenhagen V, Denmark

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 10/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 1, 2008 The first time I had this was in Traquair Castle in Scotland. 3£ to see the brewery museum, and not the rest of the castle (would have beer 5£). The so called museum was a souvenir shop, with half a wall of museum - so a money-trap would have been a better name. But anyhow, I fell in love with this beer, and have had it several times since then. It’s brown/black with a moderate head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel and licorice. The flavour is incredibly nice. It’s neither thick nor oily beer, but it has a lot of body and soul, and the notes of licorice, caramel and spice melt together in a very nice overall impression, and I have a weakness for this one!
