Bottle (purchased at the brasserie): Clear, deep brownish amber coloured with a smaller, quite persistent off-white head, toasted to roast-malty nose with hints of chocolate; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; fruity-malty finish with a light hoppiness in the aftertaste. Good, well rounded brew...........

[860-20071128] 330mL. Slightly smoky sweet date aroma. Clear, very dark brown amber body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Empty coffee grinds flavour without the bitterness has an earthy background. Medium body. Interesting hollowness with no middle notes, just upper and lower -- perhaps this is why it is "perfect for plotting rebellions?"

Bottle. Pours a deep very dark brown colour with a huge bubbly and creamish well lasting off-white head. Aroma of sweet roasty malt with caramel, dark fruits, some chocolate and wood. Good mouthfeel. The flavour has softly roasted malt, caramel, some dark fruits, bit of chocolate and liqourice with a soft bitterness. Mild roasty finish with some dark fruits.

Bottle from Kensington Wine Market in Calgary. Very dark brown body with a modest creamy off white head. (3+) Mild sweet malty aroma, nutty, earthy character, sweet malt with bits of fruit. (6+) Similar flavour, tangy note in the finish. Malty overall profile. (6+) Average palate. Decent, but a bit dilute at times.

Outstanding licorice flavors, especially in the aftertaste. Disappointingly flat head, rather lean body. Still, a cool brew.

Bottle, thanks pivnizub! Roasted metallic chocolate and plum nose. Burgundy with a off-white creamy thin layer. Rich fruity and berrylike start, wooden oaky rounding with a few iron nails, herbal hop finish. Fullbodied, yet a bit thin on the palate, slightly sparkly mouthfeel.. Dry metallic and woden aftertaste.
