Pours a dark brown with a minimal head. Malty aroma. Ripe fruit similar to a barley wine. Strong licorice and sweetness. Definitely one of those sipping type of beers.

Bottle. Very dark copper. Thin creamy head. Light chocolate caramel aroma. Big malty enjoyable beer. Hints of chocolate, licorice and toffee candies. I quite like this, but the $4 bottle may hinder me from having too many.

ruby copper brown, clear, low fluffy tan head that quickly dissipates. Aromas of caramel, stewed fruits, and an earthy quality (but not peaty). Medium bodied, smooth, modest carbonation. Sweet and caramelly, a little pruny, and a funny grain alcohol note in the finish that is hard to characterize (NOT scotchy as one may be lead to expect from its origins). Interesting and enjoyable.

Bottle at home. Brown with a small head, some lacings. Aroma moderate malty (roasted, caramel) and hoppy. Flavor moderate sweet and bitter. Light body despite the strength, normal carbonated.

Pours a dark blackish-brown with a with a small creamy head and some lace. Wonderful fruity, spicy aroma. The spicing is extremely present - licorice strong and warming, lingering well into the aftertaste. Molasses, some dark malt, and very faint but decently balanced hops, which are lost in the licorice finish. Light carbonation but a nice chewy body. The amber malting and hopping are typical for a Scottish ale, but the spice is something new, and I’m not easily bought on this one. Certainly a treat, though, for any fan of the style.
