drjay44 (104), USA Jul 5, 2008 I did not like this. A big beer, nice red color, sweet odor, very unbalanced with an off putting taste combination. Beaver (471), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA May 14, 2008 22 oz bottle, bottled in April. Pours a brownish red with a thin head (even after a vigorous pour) that quickly recedes to a thin collar.
The aroma is sweet caramel, candy sugar, nuts and cola with some hops in the background.
The flavor is sweet and sugary malts with some fruits and cola. It has a rather harsh alcoholic bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and low on carbonation.
Overall, it’s a bit of a mess and similar to the Drop City IPA, but a tad better.
GreatLibations (1252), Sasquatcho, Arizona, USA May 3, 2008 What a beastly brew this is. Pours a thick, gelatinous amber colored liquid with no head at all. It’s dead! I thought the bottle was bad but then I learned it was supposed to be this way. Strong aromas spills into the air. Something like pecan pie comes to mind. I love it, I’m sitting here trying to hard pour a 22ozzie knowing that it’s dead just wishing for something. Must be my inner child surfacing, but this is beer not Santa. Oh this stuff is thick. Thick like pouring a bottle of fresh 30WT. There are no residual effers to be counted for. It’s dead again I say and I’ll say it again dead, dead, dead....but tasty. A fat gluttonous malty mucus runs a muck slinging hopsy aspirin switchblades at unsuspecting passers by. The cops are called and the malts are refused their sweetness. The bitterness takes over and more than balances this creature from God knows where. Big nutty nuances of pecans and prailean, caramel, creamed coffee, molasses, butterscotch. The finish is long with defined sweetness but like I said it’s whacked out by this strict Robo Hop bittering component. Overall: this is a rich and decadent brew of unusual character and complexities but is absolutely enjoyable. I crammed the last 1/4 of the bottle down the glass and I finally got a one finger head. It just sat there all dumb. RSRIZZO (987), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 10, 2008 Aroma is a mild roasted scent with faint hop tones. Color is a bright ruby and as always with this brewery there is no carbonation and no head. Taste is flat and sharp. It all starts with a medium body that goes down flat and sweet then the finish comes on with a sharp sugar sweetness with a slight roasted caramel like taste and ends with a bitter bite. After taste is all alcohol. You know this might not be a bad brew if the carbonation was there and the alcohol was hidden better and the malt came across as malt and not soo sugary and ... Never mind its just not good in any way at all.
