ChainGangGuy (1602), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA May 11, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, mahogany-hued body with a thin ring of white bubbles.
Smell: Light, clean maltiness on the nose. Caramel, a cup of fresh hot tea. Somewhat floral, somewhat fruity.
Taste: Grainy, light caramel maltiness. Faint, fruity hint of plum skins. Earthy, spicy bitterness, though it remains light. Lightly sourish finish with a taste of unsweetened tea.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Not a bad lil’ red ale, if you’re in the mood for a red ale, though I’d prefer Sam Adam’s Irish Red and 3F Brian Boru over it.
scottd13 (1), , New Jersey, USA does not count Aug 28, 2008 Aroma – Malty aroma but missing the complexity of the roasted grains.
Appearance - Pours a beautiful amber with a nice white head, after that it’s all down hill.
Flavor – Bland. No complexity, no roasted character at all and not the slightest hint of rye to be found.
Palate – Watery and dry with spiky carbonation on the tongue.
Overall – I found this to be a poor example of an Irish Red and further more was greatly disappointed when I found out it was brewed by Goose Island. Tastes mass produced and to me seems as if it displays a pilsner base malt profile that is not appropriate for the style, should have a more bready body from the use of English base malts such as Marris Otter. On the palate its watery dry as if too much corn sugar was used or as if it was over attenuated. The dryness should be accentuated by the roasted malts which were nowhere to be found.
Collint (347), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bottle from Trader Joes. Pours a red malty weak beer. Aroma is just malty and the beer is just simple watered down malt with some light hops. Pretty boring beer phishpond417 (1456), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jun 4, 2008 This beer poured a reddish brown body with a medium sized white head. It had aromas of lightly roasted malts, coffee grounds and caramel. It ended with a long slightly hopped finish. kp (6200), Woodstock, Georgia, USA May 11, 2008 Date: 05/10/2008
