Ansset13 (125), Wilmington, North Carolina, USA Oct 7, 2007 Golden straw pour, slight haze with nice head. nose is of belgian yeast, and almost peach like fruit. the flavor is lightly fruity up front, with a touch of alcohol as well. A well carbonated beer with rich palate to match the flavor. Overall the beer is complex enough to satisfy experts, while inviting enough to be a great intro to its style.
donfardz64 (116), Wellington, New Zealand Oct 11, 2008 Bottle from Regional. Pours slightly cloudy golden with a thick smooth white head. A sweet nose on this one, smells like a tripel should! Aromas of clove, citrus, corriander and sweet wheat beer character. Aroma is dominated by clovey citrus. Flavour is full of citrus and clove, with a sprinkling of corriander, spice, and a sweet malt flavour. Spice lingers with the sweetness. No alcohol detected at all, this drinks so easily and at 8% you’re feeling quite nice at the end of the glass. This is the closest thing to the original Westmalle Tripel I’ve found yet. A simply first-rate beer. When tasted next to a Westmalle Tripel the flavours are much more pronounced with a far longer aftertaste in the Westmalle. Tripel Karmeliet is the perfect introduction to the Tripel style of beer. awiseman01 (48), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Oct 9, 2008 75cl. corked Bottle. Pours verry bubbly which carries over to the taste. Excellent smooth belgian wheat taste, and I say that even though I am not a huge fan of belgians. Not a whole lot of character, flavor, or happenings beyond the wheat, but I will note that this smells like a bowl of lemons, and has a slight lemon taste as well. Decent. xpimptastikx (24), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 7, 2008 Pours a hazy yellow with a full white head that laces the glass. Smells of citrus, oranges. Tastes smooth with citrus and coriander. A great tripel. CelticBrew (504), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Sep 28, 2008 Pours a hazy, straw color from 330 ml bottle, forming a white foamy head that quickly dissipated. Aroma of cloves, malts, hops and black pepper. Flavour of banana, yeast, malts, spices and peppery pears. Extremely smooth and crisp, lemons and coriander give a nice character that makes this beer awesome. Tremendous, would love to try on tap/cask version.
Bought at Pricilla’s in MHC, NC. doboy (88), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Sep 28, 2008 Comes highly recommended by the mystical Drbayern. Pours a blonde somewhat hazy yellow. Head disipated to nice lacing on the top. Good carbonation. Nose was malt and clove, with banana. Mouthfeel was very nice, coated my tongue and mouth. Cloves and bananas prevailed. Not sure what some of you were drinking!
