SDbruboy (1822), San Diego, California, USA May 17, 2008 On draft at brewpub. Arrives a hazy amber color with a thin head that leaves spots of lace. Hop forward aroma, lots of C-hops occuring as bright and citrusy, with some toasty malts evident as well. Predominantly hoppy flavor, grapefruit, evergreen and florals, toasty malts and hints of summer fruits. Medium body, gently tingly carbonation. Meh, a good west coast IPA, but not really distinguishable.
fakepurseninja (547), Sammamish, Washington, USA Sep 24, 2008 It was called IPA-X when I was there a few days ago. Big bready malt backbone with a light caramel sweetness. Lots of floral hop notes and sharp grapefruit bite. A little grassy and resinous. Well balanced and highly quaffable. ratman197 (2344), Arvada, Colorado, USA Sep 12, 2008 On tap @ Triple Rock poured a clear copper with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of pine resin. tangerine and light grapefruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of pine, orange, grapefruit and light carmel with a smooth dry lingering bitter finish. hophead_hans (583), Bay Area, California, USA Jul 20, 2008 Tap at TR, called IPAX. Pours with a nice golden to copper color and a smallish head. Aroams of fresh hops, citrus and flowers a bit of pine. Very balanced flavors of flowers, citrus and a malty backbone that softens the hop profile. A very drinkable balanced IPA, not an extreme West Coast hop bomb. Finish is not very bitter. Schultsc (414), Henderson, Nevada, USA Jun 21, 2008 Out of the cask (cask conditioned) at the brewbup in Berkeley. Hazy light orange-gold color with a very fine, bright white, thin head. Decadent sweet orange aroma with light pineyness, smooth resin, and grassy herbaceousness. Very fruity hops flavors with stonefruit--apricot (suggestive of Simcoe)--and orange with more fresh herbal qualitites. This is combined with a light malt sweetness that is in perfect harmony with the hops. Smooth bitterness with an amazing mouthfeel that really excentuates the characteristics of the hops (from the cask conditioning). rayOfBeer (265), El Cerrito, California, USA May 21, 2008 Poured from tap at Triple rock brewery, labeled as IPAX (6.7ABV and hopped with simcoe), a hazy orange with a medium sized white head and lots of carbonation. Strong floral aroma with big citrus notes. Flavor is floral hop, light gratefruit and a little caramel. There is no pine resin like some IPA’s. The palate is very dry with maybe a touch of sweetness, but mostly bitter comes out. The finish is mild with very little spice making the flavor end too quickly. Over-balanced on the bitterside but not badly. Overall good IPA I would drink again but would seek out.
