| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 22, 2009 On tap at the brewpub, Philthy. Very nice pour, in a tall glass like it’s a milkshake. Thick and creamy pour, with an awesomely frothy head. Aroma could be sharper but still quite nice, coffee and choc. The mouthfeel is a delight, and the beer has a deep lactic quality to it that’s quite pleasing. I wanted more depth and complexity, but it’s certainly a winner as a more-than-sessionable stout. Coffee smell is thin like when you remove a used filter full of used coffee grounds from the coffee maker; nice roastiness, but not robust and kind of off. Flavor follows suit. Lactic sweetness in the finish is nice, and the coffee and sweetness linger long, but overall this was flat and not that impressive. DuffMan (2786), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
