HoppityHop (103), USA Apr 19, 2009 I’m a big fan of the "California Common" style, probably because (except for Anchor) it’s so limited and hard to find......that being said, I almost always try someone’s take on the style, when possible. Honestly, most suck. Luckily, Triumph got it down. Has that almost sour-earthy-bitterness, mixed with the proper amber coloring and toasted malt flavor. Aroma is slightly fruity, and the carbonation was spot on, even though it was strangly served on nitro? Decent beer. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Mar 21, 2009 on tap-pours a rich light tan head and amber color. Aroma is grain, citrus/earthy hops, some grape. Taste is grain-caramel, spice/some citrus hops with some bite. Dry finish. OK carbonation. Adam77 (407), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA Mar 18, 2009 Poured amber with off white head. Aroma of malt. Watery body. Some malt sweetness. Easy to drink. hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 7, 2009 On tap at the Princeton location. Poured a medium amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of grains, caramel, and toasty. Tastes of the same graininess, caramel, ligthly fruity, bready, and toasted malts. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA Mar 29, 2006 Pours cloudy amber with a thick and foamy off white head. Good head retention. Aroma had grain, pepper, caramel plus an herbal quality to it. Could have used more. Same goes for the taste. Bready taste and mouthfeel with grain, pepper and caramel. Quite toasty and pretty good. Blarndon (4), New Jersey, USA does not count Mar 24, 2006 I love Anchor Steam and this is Triumph’s ode to Anchor Steam. It is a nice try and well worth the effort. It does fall short of Anchor Steam on Tap, but I live in NJ and can only get Anchor Steam if I fly to San Fran. So, this is a nice substitution until I get to the West Coast. Cornboy (417), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA Mar 18, 2006 Poured amber, ring of foam around the glass. Slightly dry in taste but with distinct caramel notes. This beer would be ideal for the summer months. One of those beers that are tough to rate, it embodies the style, but I am not a fan of the style. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Mar 15, 2006 03.14.06 Tap at Princeton. Well, I could have sworn I’d had this in the past, but I guess not. Deep Amber color beneath a rich and lasting off-white head. Aroma is quite mild, unassertive, but entirely pleasant and inviting mix of fruity grain and mild pepper. The lager notes do come through nicely there. The body is medium-full with light carbonation and refreshing bitterness, especially on the finish. The beer begs to be gulped, not sipped. Mild roasted flavors linger quietly behind sweet fruits in syrup and grassy hops. Yeast is also apparent with a peppery, nutty, and somewhat bready presence. A nice surprise, and, I think, better than the Anchor Steam for which it was supposedly modeled.
