Commercial Description:
Long ago in Bavaria, they made two kinds of beer: helles (pale) and dunkel (dark). If you think all dark beers are roasty and rough, you're in for a surprise. Bottom fermentation and extended lagering smooth out the rough edges so that anyone can slam a dunkel.

Sampler at the Philly pub. Malty and grainy aroma with spicy hop notes. Clear amber brown with small white head. Sweet caramel maltiness in flavor with a medium finish and light residual spicy finish. Nice dunkel.

Draft. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Malty fruit y apple tones, some bread y malt notes, light doughy yeast, and a sweet fruity caramel malt bill. Nice ale.

Tap at the Philly location: Amber bronze pour with a lacing light tan head. Sweet doughy dark Munich malts- some maltose and wort character. Creamy body a bit sweet- some nondescript sweetness- a tad doughy without enough hop character. Not bad- just needs some more spiciness/bitterness.

deep brown pour with a large fluffy white head, aromas were sweet, carame and banana. i loved the flavor, a nice balance of caramel and citrusy hops, a very crisp mouthfeel and well balanced aftertaste.

Wow, this one surprised me as there was (thankfully, for me) no roasty/toasty/smoky flavor or aroma. Instead, this tasted much like one of the finer examples of an "American Dark Lager" with some caramel sweetness, and light hopping. The coloring is dark and the aroma leans towards malty. Slighty bitter in the after, there was also something nutty and biscuity about this beer. I like it.

Draft in Philly: dark amber with a thin white head, aroma is malty, taste is a bit malty and slightly bitter as well, decent but not something I’d order again.
