| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 7, 2003 This was darker than I thought because I expected a helles style lager. Amber in color with a nice white head. Decent taste similar to Yuengling Lager in many ways. Something to try, but nothing to rave over. legion242 (1585), Richardson, Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 23, 2002 Copper in color; head diminshed quickly; nice nose. Rather round in body for a lager. Very quaffable. Very nicely balanced. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 18, 2002 Clear light copper. Sticky, vanilla head. Speckled carbonation. Toasty sweet malt aroma with sharp, spicy German hops. Boldly crisp, clean and fresh. Rich Munich maltiness and spicy Hallertau hops. Delicate sweetness. Strange but good malt aftertaste. Medium light body. Finishes full and spicy with cottony malts. Nice Marzen. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 23, 2002 The pour a clear amber color, the head impressive, then fades to bit of surface scum. The lace in skimpy clumps on the sides of the glass. Nose is malt, lightly sweet, clean and crisp. Front is malt, lightly sweet, the top flimsy, the finish has appropriate hops, modestly acidic, and a somewhat dry aftertaste. Drinkable, average at best, not anything to get excited about. Ranks #982 on my current 1000 beer master list. urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2002 Updated: Nov 2, 2003Update: You know, I think they changed the recipe on this one. It used to taste something like Boulevard Bob's 47. Now it has a peat smoke flavor to it. Quite different than it was, but still very enjoyable.
Old: The bottle says 'Bavarian style', but don"t think Bavarian Helles. This seems more in the kellerbier tradition, like St. Georgenbrau. And though American, does not have the hop presence of amber lagers like Brooklyn. Malt is the story here. Full, rich malt with roasted grain flavors, not unlike that found in better Octoberfest brews. Oakes must have had a bad sample. Very nice indeed.
