Commercial Description:
Dead Reckoning is unfiltered and weighs in at 5.8% abv and 53 IBU’s. It features Pilsner, Caramel, Chocolate and Roasted malts along with Chinook and Vanguard hops. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, but the rich, smooth mouth feel is what really stands out.”

Bottle. Nice damn porter. Dark, dark brown pour with a nice tan head. Aroma is full of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and some hops can be found. Flavor is roasty and a bit malty with some coffee and chocolate notes as well as some hops on the finish. Well done.

My bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus. Pours a very dark brown with red hues and an average size somewhat-lasting frothy tan head. Nice and roasty aroma along with bitter chocolate, a good amount of hops and a hint of smoke -- quite nice. Flavour of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and cream. Big, dry bitter coffee finish. Medium bodied. A very good Porter, well done!

Bottle. Pours an opaque black with small brown particulate matter in suspension. Tan mocha head starts fairly large and falls quickly to a ring. Coffee, lemon peel, roasted malt, and even an elusive hint of hops on the nose. Very clean aromas. Medium thin body, thickened up by fine carbonation. Subtle bitter coffee notes round out the finish.

Bottle (12oz). Shared by blankboy with me and garthicus. Near opaque ruby-brown, smallish frothy tan head. Bitter chocolate, dry herbal hop bitterness, hint of mint. Taste follows - more bitter, almost a clover-like character - nice and roasty. Average body, smooth, slick, somewhat still, roast malt up-front, lingering grassy bitterness. Very nice.

In the bottle from Inari Wines. Pours an intensely dark sepia with an ecru-colored head. This has a nice roasted aroma with hints of chicory. The flavor is chocolate, anise, and horhound candy. Medium thickness to the body, a very nice level of sweetness.

Bottle into Sam Adams lager glass. Pours black with dark red-brown highlights peeking in around the edges. No head, but a thin off-white ring around the outside edge, and some fine, soapy film in the center. Nose is deep roasted malt, hints of coffee, dry, a bit of acidity, some licorice. Taste is smooth baker’s chocolate and a nice roasty coffee note up front with a light hop bitterness showing up early and growing into a lingering, lightly bitter finish. Bit of licorice comes out right before the finish. Nicely done, and I’m not usually a fan of hoppy porters/stouts. Mouthfeel is nice, classic - soft carbonation bite up front, fading to a creamy, full body.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown bordering on black with a fuzzy tan head, leaves a bit of lacing on the glass. On the nose, lots of citrus hops ride on a solid chocolate, roasty backbone. Roasty, chocolate, lightly acidic, lots of bitterness to the finish. Well carbed, light in the mouth. Solid porter, hoppy and nice.
