Commercial Description:
Dead Reckoning is unfiltered and weighs in at 5.8% abv and 53 IBU’s. It features Pilsner, Caramel, Chocolate and Roasted malts along with Chinook and Vanguard hops. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, but the rich, smooth mouth feel is what really stands out.”

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a 1 inch tan head. Aroma of coffee and roasted barley. Surprising amount of hop nose for a porter. Flavor is very much like the nose, with a roasty coffee presence and a bit too much hop. Would like to keep one for a year or so and see if it changes anything.

12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Dark brown/black with lasting tan head and lace. Fruity roasted chocolate and yeast aroma. Roasted chocolate coffee dark fruit and mild smoke flavor with medium bitterness. Medium body and carbo. Nice and complex enough for a session porter.

Aroma is moderate dark sweet malts, some sweet fruit spice. It’s appearance is a dark body, little beige head. It’s flavor is of black patent malts, a flaover of coffee or extra roasted malts, with some bitter chocolate adjuncts. A bit astringent and a little thin. Ok.

GABF 2008. Pretty much black, rich aroma of grassy spicy hops and chocolate and char. Initial hop burst (all Chinook) followed by a velvety bitter chocolate and coffee, mild ash, long bitter hoppy finish. A complex, generously hopped version of the style. Excellent.

Bottle. Pours black with a small light tan head with tons of suspended particles. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, and smoked malt. Flavor is mostly sweet malt with less roast and coffee than in the aroma. Some bitter hops too. Decent porter, pretty drinkable.

Brew pours dark, brew pours cold, brew pours with no head, thanks hellbilly. Aromas of chocolate and roasted coffee bean. Medium nectar with ample residual effers. Bitter cocoa, leather, molasses, tree bark, roasted coffee bean, citrus rind. The finish is bittered beyond expectations. Hops up front fighting back the malt backbone. Deliciously drinkable despite it’s heavy handed disposition. Excellent!
