Commercial Description:
Dead Reckoning is unfiltered and weighs in at 5.8% abv and 53 IBU’s. It features Pilsner, Caramel, Chocolate and Roasted malts along with Chinook and Vanguard hops. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, but the rich, smooth mouth feel is what really stands out.”

Bottled shared by robert at Stateline. Dark in color. Taste was roasted malt, hops and small amount of chocolate. The hops stand out up front but then take way to the nice smoothness of the roasted malts and chocolate. Overall a good beer that I enjoyed! Thanks again robert for sharing the beers tonight!

Pours a dark brown, almost black with a nice tan head. There is a rich hop aroma to this beer with some chocolate notes coming through. Tastes lightly hoppy (heavily hopped for a porter) with toasty, chocolatey notes coming through. I’m not a big fan of porters and stouts but the hopiness made this one thoroughly enjoyable and I really appreciated the uniqueness of this beer.

This is a good solid porter. There wasn’t anything THAT unique about it like most of there other stuff, that was the only reason that I was disappointed.

First off, I’m a fan of Troegs overall. This beer though, is confused. It pours and has the mouth feel of a finely crafted, carefully designed rich porter. It smells and taste far to boldly toward the hoppy side of the spectrum. Completely missing all the malty, cakey, caramel, mild roast goodness that a porter ought to be, this is a bad beer from a good brewer. Sorry Troegs.

Deep brown pour with a great chocolatey aroma. Little bitterness balances nicely. Good porter.

Bonus bottle from TheRealBastard. Thanks! Pours with a quickly fadin small bubble tan head over a dark brown liquid. Some hops, lightly roasted malts and chocolate in the aroma. I’m expecting a little dry sourness in the taste from the aroma. Let’s see. Yep. Why can I smell impending dryness? Does sugar have a smell? Lots of early boil hop bitterness. A little to roasty. A little more toward the stout side than the porter side, my unskilled palate tells me. I have a big sweet tooth, and thus my rating is a lower than others.

Bottle; poured a lighter than expected cola brown with not much off white head. Aroma was nice and sweet; oats, caramel, roasted malt, chocolate with some earthy hops. Begins with some roasted malt and caramel, than some chocolate; gives way to some roasted bitterness in the finish. Flavor diminished in quality the more I drank, which was surprising. Some chalkiness also emerged. An average beer for me.
