It pours and has the mouth feel of a finely crafted, carefully designed rich porter. It smells and taste far to boldly toward the hoppy side of the spectrum. Completely missing all the malty, cakey, caramel, mild roast goodness that a porter ought to be, this is a bad beer from a good brewer. Sorry Troegs. mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Aug 10, 2008 Bonus bottle from TheRealBastard. Thanks! Pours with a quickly fadin small bubble tan head over a dark brown liquid. Some hops, lightly roasted malts and chocolate in the aroma. I’m expecting a little dry sourness in the taste from the aroma. Let’s see. Yep. Why can I smell impending dryness? Does sugar have a smell? Lots of early boil hop bitterness. A little to roasty. A little more toward the stout side than the porter side, my unskilled palate tells me. I have a big sweet tooth, and thus my rating is a lower than others. alexanderj (2280), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 9, 2008 Bottle; poured a lighter than expected cola brown with not much off white head. Aroma was nice and sweet; oats, caramel, roasted malt, chocolate with some earthy hops. Begins with some roasted malt and caramel, than some chocolate; gives way to some roasted bitterness in the finish. Flavor diminished in quality the more I drank, which was surprising. Some chalkiness also emerged. An average beer for me. beautifulmess (4), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Aug 7, 2008 I’m drinking year old Porter and it is slamming. Complex and hard to describe. Unique. Licorice meets vanilla coffe bean. DragonsHead (137), Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, USA

Smokey, roasted flavor with a nice kick of hops, Deep color to round it out. bellasierra2 (16), absecon, New Jersey, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 27, 2008 Dark, over-brewed coffee color, dark cream head. The head holds out, steady like a snot rocket. Lacing looks like African jungle love. Brown sugar, malty aroma. Very well balanced. Stiff on the palate, again I taste metal. strong flavor matches the aroma. Tastes beautiful. Coffee aftertaste, coming through my nose. Great beer. tarc (47), New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 19, 2008 Botte: The aroma was not too strong of malt or hopps. It poured a clear chocolate brown color with a tan head. The taste was a nice balance of hopps and malt, quite drinkable and smooth. Dead Reckoning was right on target...
