Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Flavor was roasted malts, sweet chocolate and caramel, coffee and a light hop in the background. Silky body. Not a big porter fan, but this one was very good. Heathen (800), Riverside, New Jersey, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 21, 2007 THOUGHTS: Barely a porter. It’s like a hybrid beer, like dogfish Head’s India Brown Ale. There were malts and hops that wouldn’t seem to go so well together, but they do.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown with and average-sized, off-white to tan head that mostlry diminished, but left excellent lacing that looked like actual lace on the glass. The aroma was moderate to heavy mild coffee and a little chocolate malt. The aroma was just incredible. The initial flavor was light sweetness and light to moderate bitterness, while the finish was moderate to heavy sweetness and bitterness along with some sourness with an average to long duration. The flavor was coffee then coffee bitternss blending perfectly into a pruce or pine hop bitterness. the medium body was somewhat oily but a little chalky thoughout with fizzy carbonation and a metallic and chalky finish. I like porters and this one did not let me down. Good smokey malty chocolatey taste and aroma. Blended well. Not bad. NachlamSie (1641), Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2007 Updated: Oct 23, 2007Bottle thanks to Tronraner. Pour is a super dark mahogany with a faint tan head. Hm. the nose has some definite hops going on. This is not an aggressively hopped porter, per se, but it is adequately infused with some piny goodness. The malts seem slightly on the lighter side of porter, but in this case it works excellently. It’s just enough leeway to allow the bitter, sappy pine to come out and meld with the chocolate flavors. It creates a fluid mesh of bittersweetness. I’ll sum this one up in two sentences or less: "Lighter bodied porter with some commendable pine-hop flavor going on. Cool." JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 20, 2007 Pours a cola-like ruby and brown., with a smallish oatmeal colored head. Laces well. Mouth feel is medium. Aroma of chocolate, smoke and pine cones and pine needles. Taste is a rich chocolately porter with insane pine hops throughout, ending in needles, smoked burnt cedar, ending just shy of pencil shavings and metal. Done well though. This is one of the weirdest porter I’ve ever had, in that I don’t think I’ve ever had one with the Chinook and Vanguard hops sizzling in the background. I feel like I am on a ship at sea, except much cooler than that. Sampled this at the Gaslight as their guest beer on tap. A great porter. Not overly sweet, but it is a good beer. Very dark, smoky, but still has a good amount of hops. Mmm.. JCB (1768), Durham, North Carolina, USA

Nice looking beer, with a cafe au lait head and a deep dark hue. Very full body, with chocolate malts dominating initially but - as the beer warms - with a tart, bitter hop quality emerging. Nice contrast, and a refreshing change from a default roast vibe.
