Very interesting porter, in my opinion. The entry and body have plenty of hoppy bitterness, but then it levels out to a smooth, traditional porter taste. My main problem with this beer is that it’s a seasonal. Changed (165), Ithaca, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 15, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours translucent maroon/brown. Thin tan head. Some spotty lacing. Roasted malt, slight hints of chocolate and coffee. Sadly, I’m comparing this to Rogue’s Chocolate Stout- so it’s clearly coming out the loser. This beer, however, is not bad- just not as dynamic. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 10, 2009 Nice roast and pine aroma to start with. Pours an almost opaque ruby red, with a thin layer of tan foam on top. Clean roast flavor, with hints of chocolate and coffee, with the bitterness from the hops coming forward in the finish. Nice full mouthfeel, and very drinkable. willblake (2177), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Surprised to see I’ve not rated this one since I’ve had it a bunch of times. Pretty standard for a modern porter. Resinous and roasty aroma. Medium bodied with fine eff. The lingering finish is snappy with nice pine and light pith hoppiness, but some lingering choco roast reminds that this is a porter. Hop burps. Good enough that it’s a regular visitor to my beer fridge and belly whenever I come across it fresh. kassner (457), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 9, 2009 This was a very highly hoped Porter, chocolate clear color, modest head but virtually a dark American Pale ale, so of course I liked it. ditmier (1091), Boise, Idaho, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 2, 2009 12oz bottle. Nothing spectacular here. Pours dark with a tan head and good lacing. Taste is just OK and it seems to be on the light side for a porter. Not quite sure what it is but I feel somewhat let down with this one. njmoons (58), New Jersey, USA
| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/20 | Oct 2, 2009 Bleegh! Not one of the better porters I have had, and not what I have experienced from Troegs.
Appearance was a typical porter black with a fair amount of foam from the pour. The foam had some staying power.
Smell, roasted malt and the citrus of Chinook hops, no other odors were apparent or were overshawdowed.
Taste, my first thought was how thin the taste was for a porter, no big flavors on the front end. It was like drinking a beer too cold, but this was a room temp. The roasted malts start to kick in and are quickly taken over by the hops which gave a bitter citrus and soapy taste. The taste finished with the soapy taste over-powering the bitterness.
Mouthfeel was too thin for a porter, and as for drinkability I rarely pour a beer out, but the last 1/2 of this went in the sink.
